Battle Scenarios

The Classic Meeting Engagement

The following scenario for a classic meeting engagement is based on an idea suggested to me by Led Klosky and can be used with any pair of armies from any period.

Prior to deployment, each player divides his 12 element army into three sections of four elements each (i.e. advance guard, van, and rear guard). If the army contains Light Horse or Cavalry, then at least one element of each must be in the Advance Guard. If the army contains Auxilia or Psiloi and no mounted, then at least one element of each must be in the Advance Guard. The CnC must be deployed with the van.

The advance guard enters at its own road end normally in march column at the beginning of the first bound, but thereafter is subject to the 2 PIP requirement for movement as being "out of command" until the CnC arrives. The van and rear guard can enter as a group in march column at a cost of 1 PIP per element (i.e. on a pip roll of 4 or higher). Otherwise, they enter one element at a time at a cost of 2 PIPs per element. The rear guard can not begin to enter until the Van is fully deployed on-board.

Camps are disregarded for this scenario. Otherwise normal victory conditions apply.

A very simple map is used as follows. A single road bisects the board from base edge to base edge. Each player may elect to place one hill and/or one bad going feature any where in the opponent's half of the board (except astride the road). :
