Dice Boxes

> Tips and Guides > DBA Resources > Fanaticus

There are a number of techniques that can be used when hand-rolling dice to influence the outcome of the die roll.  Dice cups and the use of a backboard are two techniques used by gaming establishments to guard against such manipulations.  Stephen Webb shares another technique -- the dice box -- which is used in local DBA competitions.

Stephen explains: "Each player nominates one colour to use for the game. In your turn you shake the box for all the die rolls, including shooting and combat.  It was introduced due to complaints about some players and the way they rolled their dice."

Fanatici Notes

Chris B.: My local craft store (A.C. Moore) sells a similar box with a cellophane window on top, so you can shake the die and see the result without having to open the box with each roll.  Having experimented some, it seems to work fairly well.  However, it is important to use a die small enough and/or box large enough or the dice to tumble around instead of just sliding back and forth.
