Here is a nifty little variant rule suggested by John Hills in the DBA Mail List. In order to simulates the friction and/or fog of war that typically clouds command decisions in the heat of battle, your opponent will roll your PIP die (and vice versa). The PIP results are concealed, with the moving player only being told when their supply of PIPs is exhausted. No movement can be taken back once made (i.e. in order to recover PIPs for an alternative movement). If you have any reason to doubt the veracity of your opponent, you could arrange for a third party to roll and monitor the PIP die.
