Dangerous Flanks

> Rules Variants > Resources > Fanaticus

Under the current (DBA 2.2), an element attacked in front and flank suffers a -1 penalty, while an element attacked from (and forced to turn) to the flank or rear suffers no penalty.  This seems to negate the historically disruptive effect of attacks originating from the flank or rear, so this variant rule is proposed.  It was originally suggested by Hwarang in the Fanaticus Forum, and is also supported by DBMM's treatment of flank and rear attack.

An element that has turned to face an enemy after being contacted to the flank suffers a -1 modifier on its combat score that turn.

An element that has turned to face an enemy after being contacted on the rear flank suffers a -1 modifier on its combat score that turn, and is destroyed if the total is half or less than half that of its opponent.

The modifier applies only in the bound in which the element is forced to turn.
